Frequently asked questions
Is PDF Coast free?
Yes. Reading, commenting, filling in and signing forms, merging, splitting, compressing, organizing pages, creating PDFs from other files, watermarks, page numbers, saving pages as images and read aloud are free, with no account and no time limit. PDF Coast Pro is an optional one-time purchase that adds text editing, text recognition on scans, export to Word, Excel and PowerPoint, redaction, password protection and batch conversion.
Is there a free trial of PDF Coast Pro?
Yes. You can use every Pro feature free for 14 days. You start the trial inside the app, and it needs no account and no payment method, so it cannot renew or charge you. When it ends, the Pro tools lock again, the free tools keep working, and the files you made are yours.
Is PDF Coast a subscription?
No. PDF Coast Pro is a single purchase through Microsoft Store. Nothing renews. The purchase is tied to your Microsoft account, so it comes with you to a new PC.
Does PDF Coast upload my documents?
No. Every feature runs on your own computer, including text recognition (OCR). There is no cloud service in the app, and it works with the network switched off.
Does PDF Coast work offline?
Yes. Opening, editing, converting, signing and recognizing text all work without an internet connection. You only need a connection to install or update the app from Microsoft Store and to buy Pro.
Can PDF Coast edit the text already in a PDF?
Yes, with Pro. Click a paragraph and type. PDF Coast uses the document's font, keeps the layout and reflows the paragraph. It changes the document's own text rather than covering it with a patch.
Can PDF Coast convert a PDF to Word or Excel?
Yes, with Pro. Export creates .docx, .xlsx or .pptx files with real paragraphs and tables, not pictures of the pages. Saving pages as images and exporting the text are free, and so is converting images, Office files and web pages into PDF.
Do I need Microsoft Office installed?
Only to convert Word, Excel or PowerPoint files into PDF, and the free LibreOffice works for that too: PDF Coast uses Office when it is installed and LibreOffice otherwise. Everything else, including exporting a PDF to .docx, .xlsx or .pptx, works without Office.
Does PDF Coast do OCR on scanned documents?
Yes, with Pro, and it runs on your own PC. It reads English, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Hindi, Spanish, French and German. If a page is too faint to read reliably, PDF Coast leaves it alone rather than adding text that might be wrong.
Is PDF Coast available for Mac, Linux, iPhone or Android?
No. PDF Coast is a Windows desktop app for Windows 10 and Windows 11, 64-bit. There is no macOS, Linux, web or mobile version.
Is PDF Coast available in Chinese?
Yes. The app is available in English, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese. You switch languages in Preferences inside the app; there is no separate download.
Is it safe to open PDFs from unknown senders?
PDF Coast never runs JavaScript embedded in an ordinary PDF, which is a common way of attacking PDF readers. Dynamic (XFA) forms, used by many government and bank forms, run their own form logic inside a sealed sandbox: it can fill in and show parts of the form, but it cannot read your files, send the form anywhere or open web addresses. Your documents also never leave your computer.
Which versions of Windows are supported?
Windows 10 and Windows 11, 64-bit (x64).
How do I get updates?
Microsoft Store installs updates automatically. To check now, open Microsoft Store, go to Library and choose Get updates.
I bought Pro. Will it work on my new PC?
Yes. Pro is tied to your Microsoft account. Sign in to Microsoft Store on the new PC, install PDF Coast, and Pro is restored.
